Areas of Expertise

Cleaning and Prep

Hands down, prep is the most important procedure in restoring and maintaining your log home. Without a clean and adequately prepared surface, any new application won’t last as long as it is intended. We take great pride in ensuring the log surfaces are prepared to receive the stain and sealant you have selected.

Chinking and Caulking

Chinking and caulking ensure you and your log home are protected from the elements and insect intruders. On the interior, sealants help keep your home moisture free and air tight. On the exterior, sealants decrease surface rot by eliminating moisture infiltration on top and bottom edges of logs.

Not only are sealants practical, but they can also increase the beauty of your log home. Chink and caulk come in a variety of colors so you can select the perfect color to coordinate with your stain or accent and contrast the beauty of your logs.

POST CAPS AND SKIRTS

Log post end caps add a finished look to the top of log posts on your deck, stairwell, railing, or decorative accents, while also protecting log ends from damage and rot due to snow, rain, and sun. Jack or post wrap, on the other hand, is a skirt that encircles the log post to protect it from the elements. The caps and wraps are made from high quality, 26-gauge metal and are available in a variety of colors and metal types (e.g., copper, galvanized, brown/green/black powder coat) to suit your desired look.

Media Blasting

Media blasting assists in quickly and easily removing sun damage, old paint or stain, and other debris from log and wood surfaces. To prepare logs with media blasting, we use crushed recycled glass, walnut, or corn cobb—all of which are environmentally friendly options. In addition, with media blasting, sanding, and grinding, no water is introduced onto the wood surfaces, which eliminates waiting for wood to dry, decreases the risk of rot, mold, and mildew, and allows us to stain, chink, and caulk nearly right away.

Maintenance

Eventually, every log structure will require maintenance. Our goal is to make that maintenance as cost effective, infrequent, and minimal as possible, while still preserving and protecting the beauty of your log home. During our maintenance procedures, we clean the logs and inspect for rot and product performance. Then, depending on the results of the inspection, we will address any issues.

LOG SIDING

If you are looking to add rustic charm to your traditional home, half log siding will provide that perfect look on both interior and exterior walls. Half log siding gives you the look of stacked logs, without the expense of full log construction. Half log siding comes in a variety of heights and finishes: from hand hewn to reclaimed lumber to smooth. We also have a wide selection of trims and corners—including butt and pass corners that give the appearance of stacked logs—to complete the look. Whether it is installing half log siding on one basement wall or wrapping an entire house with it, our team is here to help you achieve the look you crave.

Staining

You own a log home because you enjoy the way the logs look. Stain helps preserve the beauty of the logs year after year. At the beginning of your project, you will choose the stain that perfectly suits the desired look for your log home. Whether you choose a water or oil based stain, we will ensure proper coverage and adhesion to the log surfaces, whether sprayed and vigorously back brushed or hand applied. Water based stains also get a clear top coat, which is also back brushed. We also offer Sashco Colorfast, which is applied before staining, to prevent color shifts in stain over time due to UV exposure.

Preservation

Wood preservation is often overlooked, but a key procedure to ensure the longevity and beauty of your log home. Whether we are applying borate products to minimize rot or removing current rot and replacing it with a wood epoxy or replacement log, we are here to make sure your log home stays looking as beautiful as it was on day one.
